Which safe is most suitable for me?
Protection against fire and burglary – explanation

One of the most important question you have to ask before buying a safe or steel cabinet is: What kind of protection do I need? Do I need theft protection? Fire resistance? Or both?

Insurance
Your insurance for your company or private will give information about valuables or cash you can keep in your safe and to be covered of the insurance you have.

Important is that you must choose security level of the safe connected to what the value is of cash or other valuables you will locked in the safe.
Important is also – check with your insurance provider so he agrees to cover the value you put into the safes. Different factors can decrease or increase the insurance covers.

Burglary Resistance

Choice of the safe must be subordinated to type of the object you want to keep in the safe:

Cash and valuables – for storage of higher amounts of cash and valuables we recommend you formally tested burglary resistance safes. The grades state the burglary resistance of each safe and namely amount of cash which we can keep in the safe.

The safes can be tested by independent testing institutes in different European countries. The European standard for the certification of burglary resistant safes is the standard EN 1143-1 and for deposit safe EN 1143-2.

The Euro classification of burglary resistance and corresponding insurance rating:

EURO class 0 (grade 0) EURO class I (grade I) EURO class II (grade II) EURO class III (grade III) EURO class IV (grade IV) EURO class V (grade V) EURO class VI (grade VI) EURO class VII (grade VII) and so on.

To define the grade of the safe or cabinet, the manufacturer put a label on the inside of the door. The label confirms the quality of manufacturing and resistance grade of certification.

If an end users bought a graded safe from a manufacturer who has got his safe tested by an accredited test institute and got approval for a certain level (grade), there is no difference between the different manufacturers according to the burglary resistance grade.

There are also two more European standards, especially created to classify lighter burglary resistant safes. New standard EN 14450 from March 2005 and norm SS 3492. These norms are more suitable for day storage and domestic usage.

According to standard EN 14450 we have following security levels with corresponding insurance rating:
Security level 1 (S1)
Security level 2 (S2)

German has their own norm with the classification VDMA 24992 and some manufacturers safes are build according to that standard.
German Testing institute VDMA said that the norm require fire resistance qualities, DNV 4102 = 30 minutes.

Comments
HABECO safes have always been tested for fire resistance, separately by SP (Swedish Technical Research Institute, independent owned by Swedish state) in Sweden, NT FIRE 017 norm and got 60,90 and 120 minutes.

Habeco Protection has tested and got certification for safes at DNV, SBSC and IMP institutes, according to EN 1143-1 standard. For steel cabinets at DNV – SS3492 norm (Swedish norm).
